Gabriel Verger died in 2019. He was 85. He was completing the database of the Residents of the Académie de France in Rome with Annie Verger. An associate professor of visual arts, he taught at the École des beaux-arts d’Angoulême (Couleur et Culture générale) and at the École nationale supérieure d’architecture et de paysage de Bordeaux. His activities as visual artists range from painting and photography to Land Art. He participated in the opening of the Coopérative Sed Contra in Bordeaux in 1970. President of the Association Faire/Voir (Angoulême and Sud-Ouest), he has been able to benefit from several personal (France, Abroad – notably Amsterdam and Haarlem) and collective (Mostra del Larzac, Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, Paris) exhibitions. Purchase of the Frac Poitou-Charente in 1982.
Within Artl@s, Gabriel Verger worked closely with Annie Verger on the exhaustive database of the Residents of Villa Medici in Rome – research of archival sources, constitution of biographical records, iconographic research; historical and sociological analysis. We regret his joy of life, and thank him for his passionate participation in a major project!
